I've actually been working with DNR on a solution...it goes way beyond signs (which they've tried) and doesn't limit access. It's been sent up the chain in the DNR, if it's approved I'll fill everyone in.

It's very positive.

like what..... closing the area?   There is a back road near the black river Rabanco dump.   When people find out they have to pay 20 bucks to dump, they dump it on the back road.  Then the county spends thousands of dollars a year to go out and collect it.

I offered to form a local steward group of shooters to look after, maintain the site and help educate shooters that probably don't understand the risk this location is at for closure, however I asked for DNR stamp of approval on the group before starting to ask people to step up to the plate.

They have decided to go in a different direction.  Lips Sealed

We just finished a ODFW managed property along the Wilson River. Removing ivy, blackberries and other invasive species. Replacing them with native species.

We're looking for input on cleanup locations for the up coming months. Please let us know where the public areas in need of assistance are! Locations can be anywhere in Oregon or Washington. Pictures and detailed location information is very helpful!

Here we go again for 2010! We took on a couple month project from Nov-Feb, so we're getting back on track for the spring to tackle public land cleanups once a month!  Here is our tentative months schedule (no dates set as of today 3/2)

- March (exact date?), East of Salem in Silverton State park there is a recreational shooting area that needs cleaning. Google Maps Location

- April (earth day - 22nd) I received an email from a Central Oregon hunter disgusted with dumping that's taking place on public land where he hunts, including items like regular garbage and a hot tub.
Horse Butte Road FS RD 1815
China Hat Rd-FS RD 18
It's SE of Bend in the Deschutes National Forest.

- May (exact date?) another group of local WA recreation shooters is requesting help on a cleanup they're trying to organize;
Info: Gravel Pit Cleanup
Location: (North Fork Gravel Pit in Whatcom County)
Date: May 15, 2010
Time: 0830

- June (exact date?) Received report of an area near Pigsah Home Rd. in the hills about 5 miles west of Scappoose. Debris includes TVs, Propane tanks, wood frames, etc.

Come join us if you can and make sure when you're out there you take out what you took in!! :thumbup:
